When Summer in the City Ends...

The fall begins! And while fashion lovers everywhere are getting hyped up for Fashion Week everywhere, you begin to see and hear about the craziness in the city. Events are starting to fall into place, or rather people's calendars. Flocks of interns are rushing to said events wherever help is needed to catch a glimpse of the behind the scenes action. Maybe we all want to see Anna Wintour for even a mere glimpse of a second?

While fashion hasn't actively been a part of my life now, I am as always ready to plop down into fall gear, which means taking out the cashmere and layering galore.

And with just one more week until Mercedes Benz NY Fashion Week craziness begins, I am religiously counting down to see what's going down with my fave fashion designers....Rebecca Minkoff, Jason Wu, DVF, Catherine Malandrino, Ports??? Show me what you got!

Bowery Finds on a Thursday Night Stroll
With the intense move back up to Albany that I had once again experienced was quite a time consuming activity for the past week. Posting of all things absurd, fashion-related, and fun will resume over some labor day festivities! It's officially Fall so it's time to say goodbye to that wonderful summer sun and roll back into our Fall tendencies whether we want it or not!

Au revoir!

Things At the Met Come Alive

Going to the Met was simple enough for me- take the 6 train and ride it all the way up to a whole new world in nyc. This was far from the crowded streets of downtown and the avant-garde dressers. Although, walking through the Met and getting out of it is always the dilemma for me. Especially, when I read about the Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations exhibit. Then I went bonkers- twice in less than 24 hours.

Upon approaching this dark room wedged and hidden within the Egyptian art, I found heaven. Love actually when I found this beautiful black silk dress with a low draped back and a classic rounded high neck. The kicker: a lime green strip following the drape from the back. It was beauty beyond words and quite frankly I would recommend seeing this exhibit for yourself to take in all that this has to offer. The complexity is not just within the clothes, but within the conversation that was so very well created and directed (Bravo Baz Luhrmann). Feminism and art at its finest!

Post Met outing, my BFF, Saucy, and I trekked our way to Laduree, the French macaron shop. Soft, sweet, and delectable to perfection! I could not have been more pleased to taste a bit of Paris on Madison Ave!

Merci, Laduree for setting up shop in NYC! And Grazie, Miuccia and Elsa for creating life into women's fashion!

Eating in Style

Post celebrations and what nots led to exorbitant amounts of delicious summertime eating and savoring. First stop: Pounds and Ounces.

Eggs Benedict and Cured Salmon. Breakfast Pizza avec Truffle Oil. [Pounds and Ounces]
The Chelsea neighborhood used to be my old stomping grounds during my high school years and while my lunch consisted of Chelsea Market, Paradise Cafe, etc, the area has blossomed into such a trendsetting foodie neighborhood. Pounds and Ounces was a surprise in a gift box. No, seriously. Not only did the menu consist of Red Velvet pancakes, but the space was cozy and fit for any time of the day (It would be exciting to check it out at night...). I tried to go out of my comfort zone by NOT ordering an egg white omelette and taking my taste buds for a test drive with this breakfast pizza drizzled in truffle oil. What seemed to be pita bread with large toppings galore ended up as a wonderful combination of flavors. The smell of truffle oil even sparked a conversation with our neighboring diners who told my BFF and me that he makes truffle oil martinis and cocktails...WHAT?!? An interesting drink for those who dare to try? Count me in!

David Burke Kitchen
Following a delicious Sunday brunch with my BFF, I had an early Monday dinner at David Burke Kitchen where the decor was cozy and the food was godly. If I could rave about the tuna tartare tacos FO-EVA then I would, but that would get boring.

Even the tacos were stylishly plated! My meal was practically seafood based with trout as my main dish followed by a drunken brownie island drizzled in fresh caramel on the spot...I like your foodie visions, David Burke...

Need I say more?

With all this eating, I've been inspired to share a few style notes for such eating establishments. Because you must eat these stylish foods in an ever so chic manner.

If all else fails, color combination and a standout pendant! For the riskier style rockers, add animal inspired jewelry to cause a fashion ruckus. If all else fails, wear what he was wearing and work it!

Saturday Temptations and Indulgences

The fall 2012 lookbooks have been out for weeks and the shop windows along madison avenue, fifth avenue, soho, and the likes have been getting people hyped for the fall (by people I meant just myself because we all know people want summer to stay FO-EVA). As much as I love fall for its lookbooks, upcoming fashion week festivities, and fashion night out, there is something about summer and the afternoon outdoor lounges that make you believe a bellini at 3 in the afternoon is quite feasible. Especially a bellini at The Yard of the Soho Grand Hotel. Check it.

A busy Saturday afternoon in Soho has never been so blissful before and this hit the spot. Post afternoon drinks in Soho and I was headed to the LES (lower east side) where I was celebrating a friend's birthday at DL's rooftop. The rooftop is a secret neon rainforest that overlooks the neighborhood and invades on the privacy of the fellow Lower east siders (no not really, but you can see the tops of the buildings from up there). The music was rockin' but not jerkin' enough to make a mess out of yourself on the floor.

You can only find Spongebob Square Pants references on the food menu at DL, which makes this place all the better. Crabby Patty burger? Oh yeah... Nickelodeon old school throwback! The tater tots have never been crisp to perfection before which brings me to the Napoleon Dynamite reference. And while the truffle mac n' cheese doesn't have any sort of pop culture references, it's delicious on its own that it needs no sort of introduction or references. The night overall? Done deal.

P.S. if you're out at DL, look for "Brittain" (server by night, hot GAP model by day)

Butter For Dinner And Meatpacking for the Dessert

Thursday night- remember the college days when you would call it "Thirsty Thursdays?" Well, it felt exactly like that when I was dragged by a friend to a mixer at Avenue that I never knew existed. You could call it a way to network, but I saw it as an excuse to relive those intellectual collegiate moments and dress in all things glittery as an adult. And somehow I managed to find twinsies in their matching financial grey suits and sparkle ties. One of them happened to have a pin striking right through the tie...

"Call it a tie bar!," he said. And so, that night, I learned a little more about men's attire and the accessories that they like to hide to keep from adding more banter about their fashion. However, the most interesting moment of the night was when I came across the shelf stock full of colognes and perfumes near the bathrooms...a bit excessive, but maybe they've been trying to pimp out the guys and gals with a collection of scents chosen by the staff?

Prior to our Thursday evening adventures in the meatpacking district, dinner at Butter was a classy and entertaining three course restaurant week meal filled with girl talk and picture taking (thank you wonderful waitress for putting up with our incessant camera phone picture taking). The food was delicious and portions were the right size. This is how the world should be- for dinner that is.
