Where the Wild Things Are...On the Highline and Beyond

Last night was a time to put this week to rest by spending some time with friends, eating delicious foods, and walking the city's Highline. It was a night to rewind and destress with lava cake, animals of the Highline and iconic views of the city.

Spot Dessert Bar is a hidden gem on St. Marks Pl- a place where all the magic and fun happens any time of the day. I discovered Spot last year as I was walking down the block from a sushi dinner and boy, did I hit the jackpot of desserts. The incorporation of Asian flavors and ingredients to American styled desserts is just a spectacular twist to that All American taste. The unique appeal to these scrumptious plates can be found in its presentation and distinct flavors. The green tea lava cake, as recommended by the trendy hostess, was a dessert that was exquisitely delectable. Who knew green tea and dark chocolate could form a more perfect union?

And even on a warm day, a cup of jasmine tea along with this green tea lava perfection is a great after dinner combination to have.

With our stomachs packed to the brim (in a good way), we were ready to explore the Highline with as much energy and enthusiasm we had as a kid running through park sprinklers.

Little Man, Big City

The first thing you might be able to spot when first stepping foot on the Highline is the little man attached firmly onto the old railroad tracks. His style reflects what most of the "meatpackers" would wear (day and night)- hipster trendy, much?

Further into the park, you'll end up seeing artistic yet odd looking ads that are either seen as billboards or painted on the walls of a building. With its bold colors and seemingly odd 3D effect, this billboard stole my attention for practically 10 whole minutes. I was having a very hypnotic moment to say the least.

 

 

At night, the Highline can be a bit scary and intense at times. If you don't keep your eyes peeled open for surprises, your knees might just buckle out of fear and uncertainty. Over the railings at around 20th street, you'll find the Highline Zoo with cardboard animals perched up with all eyes on you. If you don't bother to look outside of the park and over the railings you might just miss it. So, watch for the animals of the Highline! Cardboard or not, they need some TLC too!
