Je m'apelle Escargot

Albany may be incomparable to NYC, but it does have its ever-so-often, once in a while perk. Downtown Albany Restaurant Week has come to us like a man in shining armor for food lovers like moi. What began as a dreadful start to the week ended up in quite a wonderful surprise. A girls night out was much needed after sinking our eyes and souls into the world of kinetics, acids, and bases.

Destination: La Serre, a classy French restaurant wedged in the essence of downtown Albany where the busiest hours occur between 12pm and 6pm. Luckily, for a perfect Parisian escapade, schedule dinner past the 6pm mark.
La Serre, 14 Green St, Albany NY
For those who are unfamiliar with the delicacy of snails in the French culture, it is real and has been a truly enjoyed by Parisians for a while. And when you do go to a French restaurant, you have to try an authentic part of their culinary culture just for the true experience. This means tasting the snail! For those who are not a fan or have yet to try these little monsters are in for a treat at La Serre. The garlic sauce is an unexpected conglomeration of mysterious ingredients to form this creamy taste of perfection. While the sauce did not entirely mask the taste of escargot, it helped the newbies acquire the taste for them.

Je m'apelle escargot!
As much as we know what this plate is full of, it's an experience worth trying! Weird or not, it's part of the culture and experience. What's your choosing? To escargot or to not?

An Happy Formal Ever After

This past weekend was filled with excitement, laughter, thrills, and even some moments of indecision. Unfortunately, all of that came with a lack of sleep from long hours of academic and celebratory preparations.

Some girls dream of going to the Crillon Ball (a girl can dream, right?), where they are dressed head to toe in designer couture and they are graced with the fashion Kings and Queens worldwide. Saturday evening's event may have been as close as I could get to experiencing something of that nature.

While it wasn't the Crillon Ball, it was an incredible formal evening to remember with great company, music, and the ingenious photobooth (to capture the hilarity of the night, really)! The hors'd oeuvres were delectable to savor as well as the main course dishes.
Main Course: Salmon with roasted potatoes and string beans

Celebrations always get me giddy and nostalgic all at once. I'm glad to have been a part of this celebration as my roommate and the rest of the pharmD fifth year students begin a new chapter in their lives. Congratulations!

What Happens When Fashion Week Isn't in Session

Fashion week is the holiday equivalent for many fashionistas and if you're lucky it can be comparable to Christmas. While, fashion week only happens twice during the year, it's always bittersweet to see that week come to a close. Fortunately, restaurant week comes to save our souls and feed our bellies with deliciously attractive dishes. To end my first year in Albany, I will be celebrating Downtown Albany's Restaurant Week by tasting and savoring foods of all sorts.

Prices are wallet friendly for those who are on a budget or for people like me who will be venturing to all restaurants. Are you guys ready? Get set. Now eat!

Leather and Lace

Stevie Nicks was right about love when she spoke in terms of fashion: the unexpected pairings tend to always work together. Is it that opposites truly attract? Whatever it may be, they create a perfect balance between tough and innocent.

The Weekend Review

Snippets of the festivities from the weekend...

French Silk Mousse, The Point Restaurant and Lounge: Albany, NY

Lemon and Blueberry Bread Pudding, The Point Restaurant and Lounge: Albany, NY
Desserts that tickle and awaken the taste buds were just one of the ways to enjoy a relaxing and calming weekend. What better way to unwind than with fresh fruits, in house whipped cream, and delicious treats.

These go beautifully well with the water colored sunset in upstate New York. (You don't see a sight like that every day in New York City)

In preparation for the Easter festivities that occurred on Sunday, 33 colorful eggs were stuffed and scattered among my best friend's backyard. Money and M&Ms galore!

Did you get any Easter eggs this weekend?
