Last night, I went to see "The Artist." Yes, I'm late on the band wagon, I know. But it's never too late to see such a wonderful film filled with loads of style inspiration and intriguing music (the soundtrack has been on repeat for hours on Spotify). While, I'm not too keen on the 1920s/30s, this movie has made me want to have been born then. Peppy Miller, played by the beautiful Berenice Bejo, was an actress who started out in silent films but rose to fame for her roles in talking movies.
As we see her progressively rise to fame, her style becomes filled with sparkles, tassles, and lace, something all girls want, really.
This dress was an absolute breath-taker and all I can honestly say is Bravo, Mark Bridges (costume designer). An inspiration for my soiree I will be attending on April 20th? YES!
Sequins. Sequin patterns. Diamond accessories with a touch of sophistication from the silky mid-length black gloves. I can't find an outfit any better.
For those who have yet to see "The Artist," GO! NOW!

Birthday Loves
I always love celebrations not just because these are the opportunities to poke around your closet (or your friend's) and play dress up but for the sole purpose of seeing people enjoy themselves. So, today was a day dedicated to celebrating life and enjoying the moments of today.
Sparkles don't just go on dresses or birthday cakes...
Her birthday sparkles were taken wherever she went today!
The happiest moments occur when girls bond over nail polish in the middle of the night.
And sometimes you smile because you've had another coincidental moment in your life.

Things to Look Forward To
As we start to pack away the winter blues (emotionally, physically, and metaphysically), we begin to put on our Spring faces and dress in our best Spring time attire. Jumping and prancing around in your skirts and dresses are things to most definitely do at this point in the year. Of course for all those in school, it is something to do to shake off the mindless life that Academia entails.
While the semester comes to a hectic end and we say hello to summer fun and flings, I must prepare to say goodbye (for now) to some of the warmest and most caring friends I have met during my first year in Albany. It's not a goodbye, but a see you soon- a motto I have in my life.
So, as we are scattered throughout this world, some trying to a find a greater meaning in life and others beginning a new chapter in their lives, we will always be connected in some way or another. I'll be looking forward to meeting new faces. In addition, Belgium waffles mixed with summer time adventures are things I very much yearn for...
Before, I imagine myself skipping through Highline and meandering through the summer streets of my home, I will be glitzed and glammed for one last hurrah in Albany... Inspirations to include:
More inspirations for a spring formal extravaganza to follow soon...still searching... ideas are welcomed

Saturday Night Rendezvous
Last night was an adventure to remember. Among the gawkers, inaccessible cabbies, and foreign men, it was a night I haven't had in a very long time. While, plans never go accordingly, New Yorkers are still able to improvise and make impromptu reservations via OpenTable. First stop: The Mulberry Project.
Having this place within minutes away from my home is a convenience and can almost be described as a luxury. Wedged in between a tourist-centered accessories store and the miniature sized Italian-American museum, the Mulberry Project is just a few steps down into their mysteriously small speakeasy type lounge. Above, the world is of street lamps, potholes, and of course tourists sashaying by here and there, but inside is a lair where people pick their poison and the food is out of this world amazing.
Before, the above was served, scoped, and devoured were plates of mushroom brushetta and truffle fries scattered across our table. Unfortunately, none of that was documented because of how indepth our conversation became about boys, toys, and fries. Yes, fries, because of how the perfect amount of Parmesan cheese was sprinkled atop these beauties.
The night couldn't have ended without making the mark at Mulberry Project. Our Leprachuan drawing skills were a group effort along with help from the Google image search. 80's music remixes, rock on and keep rocking.

The Hi-Lo Companion
Spring peaked out in Albany for the first time since I arrived on this uncharted territory. City girl gone country but not so much because of the lack of winter apparent in good ole' Albany. A walk outside with the roommate was just a perfect way to spend a surprisingly warm afternoon especially after braving the last few days of tumultuous mood swings and bitingly cold winter weather. It was the perfect way to de-stress and disconnect from all things supported by gadgets and gizmos, but to connect in the human sense. Nowadays, a conversation with real live folks is had via wires and words on a flashing screen. Thankfully, the warm weather brings people together in what we call the real world to connect. To laugh. To be humans.
But since Spring peaked out for the rest of that day, it has led me to adamantly believe that Spring is here for good. This means I have packed up my winter gear and headed into ankle jeans, flats, and all things lace. My newest addition to the Spring wardrobe and a fashion experiment to take on is the hi-lo skirt.
My take on this style oddly reminds me of Brazilian dancers and Disney princesses. Nonetheless, I will be taking on this challenge for the Spring/Summer season ahead. Wish me luck because sometimes it's ok that the wind sweeps you off your feet! You never know what to expect!
Speaking of the unexpected...Refinery29, one of the best online fashion and lifestyle websites, has offered a very reasonable price for a variety of Anke's delicious cookies (see above!). The plus side: these are HEALTHY treats filled with pure and simple ingredients such as maple syrup. They provide a whole lot of nutrients to help your body energized and fit (weight loss not included in the cookies so you must exercise too!) Hurry, this offer expires soon so get it while you still can on Refinery29.com!

A Melange of Happiness
Spring is just around the corner even though the world has a temporarily lapse in judgement. Weather wise, of course. After a break from learning about dew point, humidity, and all sorts of not so friendly marine creatures, I have found a few things to look forward to when Spring arrives.
While picking apples are a favorite fall American past time for most, apple pie is considered a year round dish in my book. This past Saturday, my wonderful roommate decided to make an apple pie. It was such a delectable dish that these pictures do not do enough justice for it.It was all a girl could really ask for on a chilly evening in Albany. It was comparable to the senses provoking mirrored-carousel at the Carsten Holler installation I went to a few months ago.
As much as apple pie and mirror-carousels have allowed me to think about all things soothing and calming, I cannot wait to get back to the daily grind of the bright lights and bustling streets. First stop: The Stanton Social on the Lower East Side (LES). I have yet to head over to this place and I live 10 minutes away. A possible birthday venue for my next birthday? It might just be in the cards...
But of course, it wouldn't be a trip back home without a bit of fishy fun...
and style...
I just better remember to tie my shoes!
